Ok, not quite the sea but last weekend we donned our sailor caps and headed to the Atlantic Wharf Docks for the Cardiff Dragon Boat Festival. A family fun event which sees teams race in oriental style long boats, this year the event's main charity was Cancer Research Wales. We know CRW well; working with them over the last few years through our Energy Relief programme, it was great to think we could help them raise even more essential funds.

The smiley bunch from CRW were down at the event distributing merchandise and busily tweeting mini videos of each race (which we loved watching back afterwards). We also enjoyed meeting a whole bunch of stallholders, food traders including the brilliant Ffwrnes Pizza and an amazing brass band, both of whom kept everyone well fed and entertained between races.

Speaking of which... on to the water! We absolutely loved taking part and although we're a competitive bunch here (see our post on visiting Breakout Cardiff) we kept the banter between teams very light, we even refrained from splashing the other rowers. Although, we didn't quite manage to avoid splashing ourselves - perhaps some more rowing practice is in order? Wet trousers aside, we managed, with a little help from our boat's captain John, to work in unison as a team and secure a respectable 6th place.

As they say it's not the winning that counts, but the taking part and we loved taking part.

We want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make the day run so smoothly and a big congratulations to everyone who took part, especially the Environmental Dragon Pedlars who came in first!

We're so grateful to everyone who's already donated to our JustGiving page but there's still a bit to go before we reach our target. Can you help us reach our donation target of £500 to help Cancer Research Wales continue funding researchers who are making real and vital progress in the fight to cure cancer.
